The Systematic Expropriation of Bahá'ís in Iran - A tactic of the Iranian Government to Impoverish the Bahá'ís
Join the webinar on the violation of property rights of the Bahá'ís in Iran.

"Baha’is remain the most oppressed religious minority in Iran” according to a recent analysis made by the European Parliament Research Service. The verdict of Branch 8 of the Court of Appeal of Mazandaran expropriating Bahá’ís of their homes in the village of Ivel and allowing authorities to sell their lands and farms, is another sign of that. This final ruling was issued within the context of decades-long attempts of local authorities to mass expel the Bahá’ís through arson attacks or the demolition of their property, as well as denying Bahá’ís access to their homes. These rulings and the recent systematic implementation of home raids across the country, indicate an alarming new focus on applying a tactic of impoverishing the entire Bahá’í community by targeting personal Bahá’í properties. This is yet another escalation of a systematic government-led policy of persecution against its largest non-Muslim religious minority, which has been implemented for over 40 years with the goal of slowly suffocating the entire Bahá’í community in Iran. The strategy for this persecution has been outlined in a confidential 1991 memorandum, which was signed by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
